About Us
The National Nutrition Committee (NNC) & Secretariat (NNC-Sec)
Established by the Prime Minister’s Office in 2013, the NNC mandate is to lead and coordinate the National Nutrition Strategy to 2025 and Plan of Action 2016–2020’s 22 interventions across relevant sectors and at all levels.
Organizational Structure


The NNC Secretariat is led by the MOH Vice Minister and consists of members from relevant departments within the f Food and Drugs) and from Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry, Ministry of Education & Sports, and Ministry of Investment & Planning.
Centre of Nutrition
Based at the NNC Secretariat Office, the Centre of Nutrition (CN) was officially established in June 2012 with three staff members. The CN gradually grew and currently has a total of 23 staff.
As a government organization it operates under the direction of the Department of Hygiene and Health Promotion (DHHP), Ministry of Health (MOH).

ປຶກສາໂພຊະນາບຳບັດ ແລະ ຂໍ້ມູນຂ່າວສານ ທາງດ້ານໂພຊະນາການ.
Duties and Responsiblities
The CN assists the DHHP in the implementation of nutrition policies
and programs that focus on nutrition-specific interventions.
The CN assists in the field of research, development, implementation,
and management of nutrition activities nationwide and improving knowledge
and building capacity for government staff in charge of nutrition.
The CN is responsible for nutrition-specific outcomes specified in the
National Strategy and Action Plan for Integrated Services on Reproductive,
Maternal, Newborn and Child Health 2016-2025 (RMNCHS/RMNCHAP). Out of the 22 priority
interventions outlined in the current strategy, 10 are under the responsibility of the CN.
It also cooperates with relevant national and international organizations for all nutrition matters.
Organizational Structure


Surveillance and Scientific Research Unit
Conducts survey, analyses and scientific research
Monitors, promotes and evaluate nutrition systems and activities related to nutrition.
Collects information and statistics related to malnutrition
In charge of developing an emergency preparedness response in nutrition, in case of an emergency such as natural disasters.
Nutrition Promotion and Therapy Unit
It provides technical advice on nutrition.
Promotes healthy living in coordination with other organizations.
Plans the implementation of activities for nutrition in communities and health centers
Coordinates with the Curative Department and hospitals, to address malnutrition and nutrition therapy.
Training Unit
Provides training on matters of severe malnutrition and chronic diseases related to nutrition.
In charge of all training material promoting nutrition.
Cooperate with various ministries for the development of nutrition curriculums.
Collaborates in legislations related to nutrition in communities and nutrition therapy.
Administration Unit
Focal point for all internal and external stakeholders and visitors.
Controls accounts and finance, resources, stamps of the center, stamps for the name of the Director and Deputy Directors.
Provides all office logistics
Record keeper of the Centre’s materials
Programmes
The CN is currently implementing the nutrition program, which consists of four main projects:
- Micronutrients supplementation and deworming Directors.
- Nutrition promotion for mothers, infants, and young children
- Nutrition promotion in schools, workplace, health facilities, and communities
- Capacity strengthening (in the management and implementation) of nutrition programming
The Future: National Institute of Nutrition
The CN is in the process of requesting an upgrade to become the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), with the status of the CN’s four sections upgraded to four Divisions of NIN. It is envisioned that each division will be expanded to include more units to respond to the increase of services and mandates within the institute timely and effectively.
